Second amendment notwithstanding, there is that thing about "persuit of happiness". Any law abiding individual should be able to persue their happiness shooting whatever they want, in a safe, law abiding manner. So long as I haven't done anything to warrant questioning of my use of arms, the government should leave me alone, period. Resonable regulation is fine, so long as it does what it is intended to do- essentially, keep firearms out of the hands of those who have demonstrated an inability to use them in a safe, law abiding manner(a standard to which most gun laws don't meet).

BTW- I just purchased my first and only firearm last year.

Incidently, I've read there are no restrictions on these. You only need about $500k to buy, and $3000 per minute to shoot.

I respect your belief, although I can't say I agree. I know where I live we use our handguns for sport shooting, hunting, and personal protection. They are by no means manufactured solely to shoot a person. I personally own over 10 guns of various types and use each one for a different purpose. Yeah, 1 gun may do the job, but not as efficient as using the right tool (like sport-target shooting vs hunting, etc). As for shooting a person, I do believe any gun can do that. To say a gun's only purpose is to shoot someone, is like saying your Ram's only purpose is to drive to the grocery store .
Along with this point, I personally am a Concealed Carry license holder. Licensed to carry a concealed weapon on my person. I have a .380 Auto or a .357 Mag revolver on me most of the time (yes, even at the grocery store...). I am a law abiding citizen from a family of extensive law enforcement background, and have completed all requirements and training set forth to provide me that privilege. If you met me, you would never know I had it on me, but if in the chance I am unlucky enough to witness threat to my life or the life of another (even you), then I would be equipped, trained, and prepared to "neutralize" that threat with the possible help of a deadly weapon if there is no other option.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I am just very passionate about this topic and generally try to avoid it in online discussion. Believe me, I could write much more, but I love looking at all of the great Rams on here and getting great ideas and help from you all!!

If the government takes away my right to bear arms I will either end up in jail, dead or living in the middle of the woods in Canada.

I feel ya bro! I live in the bible-belt, and proud of it. You mess with my God, my family, or my guns, and you're likely to have bit off more than you can chew!

And I fully respect everyone's opinion, I honestly do. This is a very hot topic with a lot of americans, I know, and I know I'm in the minority, especially on a board like this one I just come from a country that went through a long bloody war of independence where white farmers HAD to carry various NATO automatic rifles just to drive to town/around the farm. The requirement of being armed with the intention of personal defence is ingrained in me, and it was over before I was born! Then with the taking of the white owned land, the government imposed laws that forbid the defense of one's land to allow 'war veterans' to take over our land. So the whole issue of 'personal defence' has been tainted for me by a corrupt government.

I can't help but think that a well armed population, could only 'regulate' by proxy the daily goings on in DC. I don't think a revolution is necessary (yet)..getting US out of the UN would be a great start...(save that for another day Bob)...

I have mixed feeling about this issue. With automatic weapons, I used to think the public shouldn't own em. Now I think who could afford one? Hopefully one with enough sense to respect it. In some ways I wish we could go back to the older days where everyone carried a firearm. I think it would make criminals think twice about robbing a liquor store, or trying to kill a large amount of people. I carry a firearm everywhere I go. Not because I'm nervous or anything, I just don't want to be a victim.

In order to keep our freedom, we all need to join the NRA and support them in keeping our right to own and carry. And if you think it will only give the goverment the fact that you have a gun, BS they already know.
