Default Stock Rim/Tire width question

Hey All, Brand new here!

I have a 2003 with stock 2007 20" chrome wheels.

I have ReadyLift torsion keys in the mail and have pretty much settled on Nitto Trail Grapplers. My choice is between 35x12.5s and 295/65s. The 35s are actually 35"x13.4 but might be a little more narrow on the stock rim. The 295s are 35.5"x12.1 but might be slightly wider on stock rims.

I was leaning towards the 35s but think they might be a little too wide, dont want to rub. The 295s would be less likely to rub i think. I guess my question is, with the leveling kit, should I more be more concerned about the height or width rubbing?

So you are getting a leveling kit on your truck and want to stuff some tires uder there eh? I would not recommend going with 35" tires with just a leveling kit. Also do you have a 4x4 or 2wd truck?

If you are just going to level the truck you might want to look at getting 33" tires. I had both under my truck with a 2.5" lift up front and a 2" rear block. With that little lift I had 33" rims on stock 20s and they fit perfectly. I then got new rims and tires that were 35"x13.5x20 and I had to start cutting the bumper. I cut the bumper and still had some rubbing when I was turning tightly.

I would recommend going with 33" tires by 12.5 since you will be running the stock rims. I had a block in the rear to lift that as well and thats why the 35s fit alright. I thought it looked kinda stuffed with the 35s though. I had lots of people telling me I had to lift the truck more since the tires looked too much.

I now have a 6" lift with the 35s and it looks perfect. So in saying all of that, the 33s will probably look and work the best in your situation. That is if you have a 4x4

Thanks for your response Scat. I am not really looking for an answer on overall tire size. 33's are a little small. 35's can be run totally stock though they may rub. My tire shop said I can run 37s with a leveling kit and my Super Springs in the rear, though they said that is a stretch. You might have only been able to run 33's because you have a different gen that I do? My question is more about width relative to the the stock wheel with/stock backspacing. It is a 4x4 BTW. Anyone else have an answer to my question?

If i was you i would go by the 35x12.5....i had a level kit and 325/60/20 on my truck with the factory wheels and it would rub on the sway bar a full lock! i am now lifted with now rubbing on aftermarket wheels!

I think you should be good either way you go though! i can't see a tire saying it is 12.5" being 13.4" where did you get that information?

Your 325s are even wider than a 12.5" So a 12.5" tire would rub less than your tires. The reason you are probably not rubbing on the sway bar is not because you lifted it but because your aftermarket wheels move the tire further out from the truck. But you did somewhat answer my question because you said the 325s rubbed at full lock with stock wheels, so a more narrow tire might be fine for me.

The width I quoted was straight from Nitto's website, it is the actual OVERALL width. 12.5" represents the width of the tread. The 13.4" is the overall width when on a certain size rim, 10" wide I think.

In any case, I think I have decided to get the 295/65s, taller and more narrow than the 35"x12.5s.

12.5s need between 1 and 1.25in to fit I think on the stock rim...i have 1.5in spacers and 12.5s and no rubbing
