Default What is offset?

Okay, I feel dumb for asking this, but what is the difference between a positive and a negative offset? Does a positive offset make the wheel sit farther off the hub, or is it the opposite.

The important thing to know is the combination of backspacing and offset. The backspacing is the distance from the hub face to the backside of the rim where the offset is just the distance from the centerline of the wheel.

Thanks, both of you. Because I've been looking up wheels and I'm gonna stick with a 285/70/17 and don't wanna get a wheel thats too close and causes issues
