the 24 valves have issues with the injection pumps for FUEL..... The injector issues really started with the HPCR Systems and new ultra expensive injectors. 3rd injection events that quieted down the cobmustion noise and such. Most Injector Issues are from bad fuel / water in fuel / people not changing out there fuel filters every 7k. The new 6.7l are great engines and will leave their mark on the segment. The new automatics are smart and very capable trannys. The 48re was one of the most dependable automatic transmissions Chrysler has ever made. Expecially behind a torque monster Cummins.... for a daily driver I would have a automatic with a cummins. For a Heavy Hauler (15K + ) I would stay with the stick!

I own a 5.5 spd, would rather have the manual, because i think the only downfall dodge has always been is the auto transmissions. all my life ive had probs with autos, trucks cars etc, unless you build them and then still some problems. manual is the way to go unless they ever decide to put an allison behind the cummins in the pickups.

There are several first-gen Dodges with 5 speeds here in Lubbock.

I liked the 5 speed manual better that the 6 speed. The 6 speed always felt like it was too notchy while the 5 speed seemed to shift much smoother. In my humble opinion.

My dad's 5.9 (2006) has the 6 speed and i beg him just to drive it lol. I love having the manual. It works so much better for hauling, and especially with that granny low "1st" gear. My grandpa has a 5.9 (2003) with the auto and its got well over 200,000 miles doing nothing but hauling campers and its still running perfect. It shifts a little rough when you get into it, but its a truck. IMO the 6 speed is just a better choice. I wish my truck (5.9 gas) had a 5 speed, because there are times goin up a hill at 75 and im runnin a good 2,000 rpms and it still decides to down shift. I think my truck may be stupid lol.

haha. mine does the same thing. I dont run CC anymore on the highway. I hate it when it downshifts when going up a hill. Id rather slow down rather than it shift.

My F250 was on its third automatic when I traded it in on the '06 Dodge CTD. It took a while to find the right truck, because I had to have the stick.

But like anything else, technology changes. I'm willing to consider an automatic in the next truck.

I'm facinated by the people who have to have the latest Ipod, Blackberry, Ipad whatever because if it's new it must be better, but when it comes to vehicles they're not willing to consider that something new might be improved.

Red face I'll stick with the Cummins and an auto tranny ty...

I have the auto in my 3500 dually and I tow a 40' 5'er that weighs in at over 18K. I tow this for about 85% of the time and I would NOT get a manual tranny for this application. Not if it was less money, not if it was rated for more torque (which is the opposite btw), not even if it made the whole rig 'go faster' by some miracle. It's smoother, easier, less stressful on the trailer and allows me to drive longer due to the reduced amount of work hour after hour on the road. When I have people in the trailer on the road, I'm quite sure they would not want the added shift-point-hesitations from a manual. In fact I feel the table has turned and the autos are the better choice now. With the electronics controlling lockup so well now (tow-haul and o.d. off) my Pac Brake is spot-on for all the downhill adventures. The only change I'd make if possible would be to get more gears in the auto and that there were a little more control over shift points.>>> I agree that downshifting (during accel) comes on at times I wish it didn't. I plan on getting a Banks TC with a well-rebuilt tranny next year so I expect this issue will diminish..
