Default Tires..........

For the trucks with lift, I am trying to decide between the Toyo Open Country AT and the Nitto Terragrappler 325/70/17. Is anyone running either of these tires? If so how are they? Thanks for the info.

I've run the Toyos and I like them a lot. I have not run the Nittos but I hear they are good tires as well.

Hopefully someone will chime in here who has so you can get a comparison.

The Toyos (I run A/T's on my truck, Proxes 4's on my SRT) are really good tires from a wear standpoint. The M/T's I had on a previous truck are, obviously, a little noisier than the A/T's but not so near as noisy as the Cooper Discoverer STT's and they lasted a LOT longer. I was constantly having to balance the Coopers as they wore out and the construction of those tires made it very difficult to balance. With the Toyos, I did one road force balance (did the same with the A/T's) and didn't have to touch them again.

I don't think you can go wrong with a set of Toyos.

Good luck with your choice!

Maddog thanks, my cousin has the Nittos on a Titan but the truck has no weight to it and he seems to like them. Ive seen alot of the Toyo AT here in PA but they are all on stock rigs. How big did you go? Ive heard that 35s and up are hard to balance.

Yes, 35's and up are hard to balance. An inferior tire of smaller size can also be a real bear. A road force balance will eliminate the issues commonly found with bigger tires.

A road force balance will 1) tell the tire tech if they need to index the tire to the wheel (rotating it for best balance), 2) determines the uniformity of both the wheel and tire to insure you don't have a bent wheel or grossly out of spec tire, and, 3) insure that excessive weight is not used to bring the tire & wheel back into balance parameters.

When I did a road force balance on my new Toyos recently, we found a new tire that was way out of spec and the shop replaced it for no charge to me instead of trying to add weight, which does have it's limits!

nice thanks, i talked to a few other guys out by me at the local lift shop and they all agreed on the Toyo. Im going to go with the Open Country MT 35x12.50x17 load range E. The 2500s weigh so much its a hassle. Thanks for the info Ill make sure that they get balanced the right way also. He quoted me at $310 a tire, sound a bout right?
