Na... For example, doing ~25 MPH, traffic light turns yellow and im gonna make it threw, floor it, truck just kinda lags there and doesnt shift down to 2nd. This truck seems to not make much power in the lower RPM range, so it just slowly runs up to about 3500 RPM then starts pulling.

Now this is only about a 50/50 thing... Sometimes it will downshift and pull hard. Programming is horrible.

What gears do you have? This may be part of the shifting issue in the hills.

i think we have the same setup, 5.7L, 20" wheels, 2 wheel drive
I have made the round trip, coast to coast drive twice now, San Diego Ca. to Connecticut & then up to Toronto & back home again. 7600 miles both years.
I now have 33,000 miles on it & i am still learning things about my Ram
I drive with the cruise control set when i can, the shifts can be abrupt when climbing steeper hills, sometimes the speed control allows the trucks speed to drop more then 5 mph below the set cruise control speed, when it does kick in & starts to return back up to the set speed it can be harsh, but, if the sensors detect the speed decrease as i feel it should, the shift is smooth & easy.
I manually shift while i am escorting a semi truck that is on a steep decline or incline, saves the brakes going down hill.
recently i felt how strong & quick these trucks are, i had been waiting for a break in traffic so that i could merge from a side drive way, i had put the truck in 3rd gear for whatever reason, i saw a small break in traffic & started merging, i was doing maybe 30 mph & another vehicle was coming up behind me quickly & i was thinking that i should have waited for a longer break in traffic, without thinking i down shifted instead of up shifting, the Ram accelerated so quickly that i was sort of taken off guard, accident avoided.
This truck is still showing me things

I agree with the transmission issue. When running with no load, or a light load, it does seem programmed for max mileage. The Predator helped with more positive shifts. When towing, I am in tow/haul mode most of the time in hilly country which is a great mode to drive in.

.

I live in a hilly area so there are numerous downshifts on any trip short or long. The
transmission in my Ram ST works silky smooth with my 4.7 semi-hemi (no mds). I
would speculate that your lunging perhaps occurs when extra cylinders are activiated
along with a downshift. I noticed that years ago with my 2005 Chrysler 300C with
mds. It was difficult to modulate just the right amount of power on downshifts with
the accelerator. Much easier to just use cruise. Bottom line: I don't like MDS.

The manual shifting is a joke, takes over a full second and a half to actually shift. Way to long IMO. I thought the manual shifting in my Cadillac was slow, my Ram is horrible.
I may be wrong but from what Ive read its not a true auto shift. Its not like the paddles on some sport cars. More of a max gear it will shift up to.

Wow, I have not had any of the issues with the trans listed above... It is much better than the GMC I had before.
