Default 4k rev limiter

When I ran my seafoam earlier today I discover the rev limeter on the gen for 4.7 is apparently 4000RPM. Seems kind of low. Where is the power band on this engine? In any case I reved up to 4k and it stopped and held right there.

Doesn't seem right. Prob had something to do with spraying the seafoam in and running rich. Have you tried to test that theory while actually driving? I'd be willing to bet that your hp peaks somewhere around 5000 rpms.

I'd hit a highway on-ramp and wind it out thru the first couple of gears.

Maybe so. I'll have to give that a shot. I posted another thread about it throwing a code for "system too rich" when I was clearing out the seamfoam. Perhaps the code in the system engages some sort of fail safe to keep you from blowing up the engine before you have the MIL checked out.

Maybe the rev limiter is at 4k..for while your in park or neutral...Cause it doesnt matter where the power band is while your in park. Only matters while your in drive and putting the power to the wheels. It would make sense to me if it was set at 4k. Dont know why you'd wanna go any higher than that.

I think its only when in park and you'll probably find a higher one around the red line when you're running down the road.

^ kinda noticed this too, i believe it does have something to do with being in n or p. Wonder if it will make a diff. putting it in tow/haul mode etc. hmmm may have to go play with my truck in a minute. haha

Yeah...park and neutral its limited to 4k. Most new cars are like that...at least autos.

I think its to prevent warranty work from people taching it up to 6000rpms and dropping the shifter down into drive or reverse.

Neutral drops, basically. The automatics clutch dump

The idea of course was not that there is normally a reason to rev up past 4k in park, I was of course trying to blow out all the carbon with the seafoam. I just noticed it stop dead right at 4. Next time I'm on an open strech (without the wife in the passenger seat) I'll what happens.

You guys were all correct (not suprisingly). When I finally did get a chance to hit the gas hard, while in gear, I got to nearly 5k before shifting in most gears.
