Default shifting problem

hi everyone. im new to this forum but ive had my truck for about 10 years now. its a 97 ram, 2 wheel drive 5.2L. driving the truck around town it shifts fine but i work about 25 miles from home, when i drive to work i take the expressway and after i get off the expressway when the truck is good and warm, it doesnt want to shift. it will rev up to 3000 or even 3500 rpms before it finally shifts. but once it does shift it shifts crisp and doesnt slip. any ideas would be very helpfull. thanks

check out error codes it could be the torque converter solenoid, i dont think the check engine light comes on if this is the problem. my truck does it. what it does is it will lock up the converter in first gear and wont let it shift or it wont downshift out of second. what really makes me mad is when im on the throttle hard up a hill around 40 mph it will shift into third and lockup at the exact same time witch causes the whole truck to shutter
