I pull a Cougar 278RK with my 4.7 litre 1/2 Ton. The trailer tongue weight or hitch wait is 1260 lbs, and the GVWR is 8800 lbs. I have never had it weight more than 7950 lbs. with water, groceries and clothes, plus other extras we take with us. Truck tows great the only change I have made to the truck is change the rear end ratio from 3.55 to 3.92. Towed a few trips through the Rockies here in BC before the rear end change and the old 4.7 worked pretty hard. Works less now and did I-5 from Canada US border to El Centro California with no problems this past January and April. I would get a bigger Dodge if I could but being retired limits the bucks so for now the 1/2 ton has to be it.

Let's set a few things straight here. A 1500 Mega Cab and a 1500 are COMPLETELY different trucks.

The 1500 Mega Cab is the exact same truck as a 2500 gasser with a rear lower spring rate..hence the 8500lbs GVWR.

You can not compare a 1500 mega cab to a regular 1500...Totally different truck.

2008 was the last year they made the 1500 Mega cab and there also is no power difference in the 5.7 between the 1500 mega cab and the 2500 from that year.

So those of you that want a 1500 mega cab don't have to worry about your rear diff over heating because it's the exact same axle as the 2500. You're basically getting a 2500 with a little bit of a better ride.

ENJOY!

I have 07 1500 mega cab and I pull a 18ft car hualer with a 4300lb jeep behind it and all the gear and tools for a weekend trail ride and I don't even feel it back there even on the hills. I had the cruse set at 65 and I got 13mpg on my last pull that was 200mi round trip to a off road park.

well I don't have the Mega Cab, I have an 04 Quad Cab 1500 with the 5.7. I pull an ultra-light 29' travel trailer and it pulls just fine. Hills are a bit of a challenge, but overall not bad. The dry weight of the TT is 5162 lbs with a tongue weight of 585 lbs. With my 800lbs WD hitch it does the job.

I tow a 27ft Thor travel trailer with my 08. Dry weight is 6400lbs, GVWR is 8300... With a WD hitch and load levelers it tows it without a sweat.
