Default Tow/Haul mode or no?

Looking for info about having tow/haul on or off when racing. Opinions? I read that when in tow/haul the transmission will hold a gear longer before shifting, but does it do this while WOT any way when not in tow/haul?

it dont affect my times at all

how fast do you think your running you dont want to shift into the 4th at the track

so what i do when i get into third and above 5 rpm i drop it back down into 2nd and it locks it into the third

So, what was the conclusion to this? Is there any gain to using Tow/Haul mode, or even OD Off mode? Onebadbee said now, however he also has done some work to his engine...So for a completely stock Ram, with maybe a CAI and Exhaust only, will switcing to either of these modes give a little gain in 1/4 time? I would have thought personally that OD Off would due to the slighty higer shift points, and no "lag" from switching to 4/5 gears...

i'm not a racer, but, i would use tow/haul mode & pull out the air filter when at the track

if the trans hits 5th gear, on the track, you will lose time, not gain, maybe they were correct saying that going into 4th could do the same

you wont get near 4th or 5th in a 1/4 mile......not without some really low gears....

I race my 4th gen Ram. I found it better to run with Tow/Haul on. I may be mistaken but it utilizes the 2nd prime before 3rd gear. My truck, with the 3.92 gears, shifts from 2nd to 2nd prime at about the 1000' mark and still pulls hard. When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it falls on it's face. Our trucks have 6 forward gears but do not use the 6th gear(2nd Prime) unless it is in Tow/Haul or Manual shift mode. I wouldn't shift manually unless you have a tuner that will allow you to change the shift points to a higher RPM. Tow/Haul On = 1, 2, 2prime, 3, 4 Tow/Haul off = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You only need the first 3 gears for a 1/4 mile run. If I am mistaken someone please correct me. Thanks.

I agree with that ^^^^ and don't know that O/D off would change the gear multipliers much anyway.
