Default 04' mods best bang for the $

My 04' has been a good truck so far and now it's time to step it up a bit. . . I have heard headers are an effective add on to the 5.7-but I would want something that would last, and if shorty's don't add much I would want to spend the extra for long ones.
Tuners- DiabloSport Predator Tuner appears to have the best reviews but I have heard that it cannot change shift points in 04's only 05 and up. I have heard good reviews about the Cortex as well and that it does support the 04' 5.7/ auto trans. Any experiences with these?
I also saw the bbk 85mm throttle body mod.
What do you guys think is the best place to start with the mods-I do want to keep gas mileage the same or better if possible. And of course the budget is tight. Any help would be great

well with the 04 and the 05 thing about the Ds i cant really help you with because i got a 07 chefred and other can help you there. They chime in. The bbk throttle body is a nice mod or you can look at fast mans. Didn't really do a lot with mine because i not super modded yet so ya. With headers i got the obx headers for a great price. Do you have a exhaust? you can get headers and exhaust for like 1300. Dynomaxx

it all depends if you got the earlier 04 or later 04. Earlier 04's still had the 03 type pcms which are hard to program...later 04's are like the 05's pcm and have more tuning options. good place to start with modding is with a nice catback exhaust (magnaflows..no flowmasters), definitely replace the Y pipe as well...then do a cai (I was perfectly happy with an ebay mopar clone until I got a bfi), and also a programmer, my rule of thumb is, if you plan on doing cam/head mod in the future, get a diablo. If not, do a superchips (3865), they seem to have tq management/tranny control programming a little better then the others.

The previous guys have given good advice. Thought I would chime in on fuel mileage though. Generally people that mod out their truck can't keep their foot out of the gas! It's true for me. I have the DSP tuner, CAI, Fastman ported throttlebody, shorty headers, and flowmaster super 44s and mileage in town about the same. On highway driving nice I got up to 21.6 mpg.

The best mod for the money was my 4.56 gears....But then of course I am 2wd and it costs twice less than 4x4..Other than that i think diablo with exhaust and intake...
