Default Mufflex 24" review

Installed the 24" the other day. Installation was a pain in the ass, aligning everything up! I'm a perfectionist so I want stuff done right. But, got it done. Alignment is not very good, had to wiggle, shake, shove, have a beer, repeat. I got annoyed. Had a leak at the muffler intake, went to autozone got some heat tape..no leak. Lots of moisture blowing out at this time but sure that is from hot to cold temps and "burn in". Just went on a 300 mile round trip venture. Opinion, louder than stock trash can but not too unbearable. Sounds deep at low rpms but once you hammer it, the sound comes to life. I'm VERY glad I got the 24", anything less (inches) would be too much for ME. Disappointed that I could have just gotten the muffler and had a shop weld it up for about half the price but lesson learned. If anyone is thinking about getting the Mufflex, I would recommend just getting the Mag Muffler and have it installed professionally. Just my two cents. For those wondering about drone with MDS, I have the Predator w/MDS off so can't be much help there. Oh, I do love the 93 tune!

Great writeup. So, you had the factory duals? Do you notice much cabin drone at lower rpms since you turned your MDS off? What model # for the mag muffler if I just have a shop weld it in? Sorry for all the questions but don't want it too loud.

Mark09,
I have the factory duals. I had MDS turned off before install of mufflex and there was no drone with factory muffler. With MDS ON, once it kicked in very noticeable drone. I highly recommend the Magnaflow's, had an 18" on my Titan and sounded quieter than the 24" I have on the Ram now. There was a big drone w/the 18" at 65mph on the Titan. With the 24", very little drone...it is an even growl across the powerband but when you open it up...wow. Not sure what the part # would be for a direct replacement magnaflow but I do remember from the Titantalk.com forums that there is a place that you can bid on mufflers and they usually accept what you ask. I would do a search as others would know this question.

I agree about the lining up issues...got to have everything rotated just right....I went with the Magnaflow 18" and love he sound. The passenger tip is slightly higher than the drivers and I plan to "fix" that shortly. Muffler, clamps, extention pipe was less than $100.

I have the 18" Magnaflow & it does the job quite well, not too loud, not too quiet.

Just a bit of back ground first, i have worked with semi trucks & heavy equipment since 1970 & i worked for farmers, ranchers, & in the building trades before that. I also ride a Harley Davidson.

I don't know what you do to get this drone sound, i have noticed a sound, sort of like a inboard motor boat that is running rough out on the water, but, that only happens at low speeds, under 40 mph & except in school zones, no one drives that slow.
If you want to hear something that can get irritating, try living on the down hill side of a hill, where truckers use the Jacobs brake, that is noisy. MDS drone is nothing, turn up your radio if your bothered by it.

Magnaflow's lifetime warranty, in case someone doesn't know, if the muffler goes bad you have to pack it up & send it to them. They want about 4" of tail pipe along with the muffler, 2" before the muffler & 2" from the back. They do this so they can see if it was installed correctly, proper welding, etc. Then they dissect the muffler to see if was it was a manufacturing defect, if its something that they did wrong, you get a replacement muffler. If it was a flaw caused by improper installation, you get to open your wallet again.

Default Update MDS on!

Just to update everyone on my Mufflex. The Magnaflow has burned in pretty well. It is now a little more mellow but under acceleration it sounds great. For those that want to know about the drone with MDS on, well...it's better than stock. Sure there is a drone, but with a 91 tune on my Predator the shift is a little smoother and when MDS kicks in there is no deep "sucking chest wound" sound. I turned MDS back on because of mileage. With it off I was getting roughly 13-14 mpg, since I turned MDS back on I'm getting 16-17 mpg. I have a 10 mile commute with 50/50 city/hwy and the MDS definitely helps. Just my opinion and from what I'm seeing on my computer. I'm running 93 octane from Sam's Club and switched to the 91 tune due to the fact my muffler tips had a bit of carbon so I figured I was running a little rich. I will see how the 91 does and report back. Mods are K/N drop in, 24" Mufflex. I'm looking for a custom tune just to dial in my AFR's, anyone know a good place to get one from? Thanks.
