Default Hauling hay in my bed 1200lbs

I just got a horse and for now got a couple of small bales of hay. But, im wanting to get a 1000lb - 1200lb round bale of hay to save $$. Is it ok to put in my bed? I have an 8ft bed, im planning on getting some 1000lb helper springs before.

If i can do it, how do i unload it???? Can i just roll it out or what? Anybody know or done it before? Oh and what if i Don't get helper springs...How much sag will i get and will it be safe? ANY help is appreciated!!!!!

Pics to come, of the horse, or whatever else i may do so keep check on my posts/threads. Feel free to post pics of your hay loaded, or whatever else that is having to do with this thread....

I imagine you would need a forklift to move that much hay.

i loaded Harleys in the back of my old trucks before, pickups are rated 1/2 ton, they can haul 1000 pounds easily most times, Harleys weigh right around 900 pounds

My new Ram is a 1500 series 1/2 ton rating, it normally would weigh 5100 pounds or a bit more, mine weighs 6300 pounds, that is 1200 pounds more than when i bought it

when you roll it off truck, set the parking brake, so you don't put excess strain on the parking pawl in the transmission, after all its just a little pin that doesn't allow the output shaft to rotate while its in PARK position

when you unload the round bale, use a couple of sturdy planks going from the ground to the bed, don't use the tailgate, if you can help it

Thanks for the info! Yea, i always set the parking brake Every time i stop and put it in park to go in a store or work anyway so i do it by habit now.. Ill probably put in it Neutral set the brake and put some wood blocks around the wheels just in case and have someone in the cab ready to lay on the brakes if it ever tries to roll. So it is possible to roll it off? I should have plenty of bed left even with the roll in there so i should be able to get back there with someone to push it off. Ive gotta make sure i can get it off tho before i get it.. Or else ill have a permanent roll of hay in my bed! lol Its gonna have the wrapping around it so it should stay pretty compact and round. Im new to all this hay business so i apologize if i sound dumb..
