Default HELP with my engine knock/tick

I have a 89 ram 150 with a 318 tbi and when i start it cold she runs great but as i start to drive and gets warm she starts to tick when i hold her steady. if i let of the gas it goes away if i give it some more gas you can barely hear it. people have told me its the lifters but then others say its on the lower end and its the rods. Id love to hear what you guys think it is thanks!

I don't have an answer to your question, but hopefully someone that can help will be along soon and this will move your thread to the top.

get a compression tester check for low compression. on my magnum i got a tick. and about three weeks later i broke a exhaust valve spring. got a junkyard spring replaced the broken one. and my ticking went away, wierd. my readings were 150psi on 4 cyl, and 90psi on 3cyl and none on the broken one. i replaced the broken spring and compression came back to 160. the low compression cyl probably have weak springs. steal a bunch of junkyard springs see what happens. i spent 10$ on a set of springs keepers and push rods. so now i have a bunch of spares. that is just to get me to work for the week. this upcomming weekend im putting in new springs and valve seals. my tick went away with the new spring. so maybe the ticking was a sign. idk. just an idea. hope you figure out your problem good luck.

ive heard mainly its lifters and that these engines are plagued with ticking issues. My dakota r/t 5.9 had a ticking issue, i had it for 3 years and nothing went wrong with it. However it could be something bad as shortbox pointed out.

I had similar ticking issues, tried treatments to quite the tick, some mechanics told me it was the lifters... I got different opinions and found out it was just an exhaust leak..lol the tick was horrible and I was about to rebuild, and i had the same symptoms as dodgeman
