"the difference in a lockable tailgate, (non electric type), is when you buy the lock, you also need this part, the first pix, the second pix is what you likely have now"

Sorry I wasn't clear. I want the power lock kit.

Haven't done anything yet. In fact, I didn't think about having a tailgate switch until it was mentioned here. I like the idea though.

Without having thought it completely through, it seems you could run multiple 'triggers' to the same relay that switches the bed lights on/off. One could be the dome light circuit so the bed lights come on when you lock/unlock the doors. Another trigger should be the dome light switch in the dash (the bed lights should be on the same circuit as the cargo light on the back of the cab). A third trigger could be a tailgate switch and/or an interrupt switch back somewhere around the rear bumper. You might need a few diodes in the system as well to prevent unwanted reverse currents (haven't sat down and laid out a full schematic yet).

I think this may be my next mod after I get my HID's and driving lights installed this weekend [fingers crossed!].

Cool thanks. I picked up my switch last night. My lights had a bad section so I had to reorder. I have something a little different in mind for my switch. I'll post some pics on the install (assuming my idea works)

Well I finally got my light kit installed. I was going to install my alarm switch inside the quarter panel then put a magnet inside the gate to activate the switch but the magnets won't activate the switch through the steel. I guess I should have paid more attention in science after all Anyways I have them on a fugly toggle right now. I need to find a nicer one. Here's some pics so you can see how bright they are. I'm really impressed with how bright they are. You can see all the crap I need to clean out of my box. When I did the install I tapped into the constant power at the 7 pin trailer connector. Of course to do this I disconnected the ground off the battery. When I was done and I went to pull the truck out of the shop my abs / brake /esp and traction control lights were on. Luckily I have access to a scanner and was able to clear the abs codes that were causing the issues. I should have wrote down the codes. Anyways just a note you may need to pay someone to clear the codes for you if it happens to you. My 4wd would not engage with these codes on either so It might be best not to do it during a snow storm like I did.
