Default H9 low beam headlight mod?

I've seen on other threads that one can easily modify an H9 bulb to fit the H11 socket. The quality of lighting is said to be huge. The H9 bulb is 65w 2300 lumens. Using the basic formula of I=W/V, the 65w bulb should only increase current draw by about 0.5 amps. Has anyone tried this on their quad headlamps? I have a new 2010 Ram 1500 and looking to improve the lighting quality of the low beams. Thanks.

I would love to see this mod...... I just did a mod on my fogs i found somewhere on the net..... I took a 9005 silver star ultra and filed 1 of the tabs down to match the 9145's that come in the fogs all I can say is WOW!!!...... I found it on a jeep site and he tested it with a heat gun and it was only like 15deg hotter but the lights are brighter than the headlamps cool 10min mod

@ 05 Bee, I'd be worried about the 9005 bulb. It's a 65W bulb compared to the 9150 which is a 45W bulb in a much smaller plastic housing. Each 9005 is drawing 1.5 MORE amps on the stock wiring. Let us know how it works out.

In regards to the low beams in the quad headlamp, here is a link:

harness adapter:

I don't believe the adapter will fit in the headlight assembly, which means you have to modify the bulb socket:

They also have something called "The Brite Box" which will allow you to have your highs, lows, and fogs on all at once. I only see Dodge Ram up to 2008.

I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a pair of H9's locally.

Default update !

I have excellent news. I bought a couple of standard Sylvania H9 (65w) bulbs from Pep Boys today. I also bought a pair of standard Sylvania 9155 (55w) bulbs for the fogs. The H9 in the low beams work excellent. You only have to modify the bulb's electrical socket by removing a tab with a utility knife. With a little wiggling the H9 bulb fits nice without additional modification. The 9155 fits in the fog socket with a little wiggling and no modification to the electrical socket. There is a big difference in the quality of the lighting, not mind blowing, but excellent compared to stock. Basic driving, I no longer need the fogs on. On the open road with varments and deer running around, the fogs add even more side lighting. I have no reason to replace the stock headlamps or invest in any other bulbs. I think most would be happy with this set up. I didn't get any flips, flashing, nor did I see anyone adjusting their mirrors to avoid any blinding. I had Sylviania H11 Xtravision in there which really didn't improve the lighting, but I'm telling you H9 in the lows, 9155 in the fogs, are a big improvement. Even the high beams work better with the H9 installed. Best $45 I've spent.

I don't get it? I have the quad lights and they are great on low with the fogs on. I just can't see going to the trouble and the warranty risk of changing the bulbs or going with HID when they work just fine.

@ Duckhunter, I truly respect your opinion. I didn't do this for looks at all, I just agree with many others that the stock headlamps are inadequate for rural driving. I've driven many vehicles so far in my lifetime, and I couldn't believe how poor the quality of the low beams were. I, like you always drove with the fogs on, but always felt I couldn't see far enough nor wide enough down the road, roads I've traveled on for 2 decades. The H9 in the low bring the quality of lighting to normal, and with the fogs on to supplement when pitch dark in deer country.
