What determines whether or not you have limited slip anyway?
Correct. the LSD is seperate from the ring and pinion (gears). Here is a pic of each carrier that the ring bolts to...

I think the 09 and newer only come with the lsd if you opt for the 3.92, at least I was unable to build a ram with 3.55 and lsd when I was playing around with the build my ram online. The lsd is the main reason I went with the 3.92 even though my truck will probably never see a track but it will see some snow and mud so the lsd was a must.

I was under the same impression. imo 3.92s will def make a nice difference but if your going to go through all the trouble to change gears might as well go w/ 4.56s just what I think. I was never in to racing trucks more off road but thats the gear jump Id choose for either let us know how it goes

So, what does one have to do to make their truck have LSD?

Is it computer controlled, strictly mechanical, or both???

So what kind of time should I expect to gain going from 3.92-4.56 gears?

FWIW I have the 3.92 on my 07 with LSD and my best 0-60 time is 6.2 seconds. My differential fluid is full synthetic with 4 ounces of LSD lube. I am running the 93 octane Diablo tune, Volant CAI with full ram air tube and an Airaid Jr elbow to run it straight into the throttle body, dual exhaust with a Flow Muffler, and a 180 T-Stat.

relatively speaking, the 3.55's may feel ok to you. I have a buddy who had an 05 with 3.92's...then bought a 2010 with 3.55's. He said if he had never driven a 3.92 equipped truck, the 3.55's would probably feel ok, but, since he has, he says his new truck runs like a dog...
