Default Rear Heat.

I have the center console and shifter in my 2011 sport 1500. at the back of the console there are two air deflectors and underneath both bucket seats there are air deflectors on the floor toward the rear. I have tried the heat control in all positions and I only get a trickle of air from all these rear seat deflectors. In my 2007 2500 diesel mega cab, the rear deflector at the back of the console is almost as forceful as the front dash deflectors. Has any one else had this problem with their 2011 Ram 1500?

Thanks/ Les..

This problem was recently posted in the 2009 forum. It seems like everyone is having this problem. I guess it's a design flaw. Those vents are connected to the center vents in the front. If you close the front center vents the flow from the console will increase. I haven't asked about the problem but it seems like a poor design.

I have the same problem. The heat in the front is great, but in the back it really sucks. When my truck went in for the HVAC Recall i thought this might be one of the issues, but apparently not.

because i am the only person in my Ram, i can't answer your query

But, if you think about it, water & air flow work the same way
both take the path of least resistance
both are powered by pump or fan
if you take one hose & you T or Y off of it, you cut the flow by at least 1/2 & if you T or Y off of it again, then there is no force at the outlets that are furthest from the source
so you need to restrict the flow at the dash, to still have force at the furthest point
with water you can do this by starting with a 4" pipe something like a 1/4 mile long, then drop to a 3" pipe for another 1/4 mile, then a 2" pipe etc. down to a 1/2" line something like 2 miles away, to keep the same force as at the source, of coarse you lose volume all along the way
There is a formula that landscapers use when setting sprinklers on larger lawns, golf courses, cemeteries, etc.
Chrysler engineers cant' heat 50 square feet with the small fan that they use, so you have to restrict your front vents, & it helps to crack a rear window just a bit.
when trying to cool off the cab, i recirculate & crack a front window to let the hot air escape
you have to preset your climate controls when you park for the day/night if you want the cab to be comfortable when you use the FOB to start your vehicle, while you make your coffee & put on your shoes
I am finished rambling
