Default Speedo problems

Alright i'm sure this has been discussed many many times here so sorry if it's a repost but I'm working on the truck while I post and losing daylight. My speedo has stopped working, odometer doesn't work, check engine light on, abs light on, brake light on. But I also found a hole in the rear brake line which I'm replacing now. Sent a friend to the auto parts store to get a abs speed sensor for the rear as i've heard that's my problem but they kept assuring him over and over it was the speed sensor on the transmission causing my problem so he came back with it instead but I don't want to use it if it's the one on the rear. Can't get a rear sensor until wednesday. I ran gauge diagnostics and I know the cluster itself works just fine. Transmission also shifts funny so could it be the front, just the rear, or a possibility of both. I have the front here but haven't put it on as if it's wrong I can't take it back once I use it.

I agree with you about not wanting to install the sensor yet. Electronic parts can rarely be returned once they've been installed. With the CEL, ABS, and Brake lights on, I'd be wanting to know what codes I'm dealing with before I go throwing a bunch of parts at it.

Parts store should be able to read the codes and then tell you would need to do to fix them.

Once you've fixed what the codes said was wrong, do a hard reset (disconnect the battery for a min or more) and see what happens.

Definately get the codes from the ABS module first as they will point to the problem. A faulty speed sensor can cause shifting problems.

To diagnose it properly were gonna need a trouble code .

took the truck to autozone to use their scanner so i could get the codes but weird enough the check engine light decided to turn off on the way over and couldn't pull any codes off it but the abs light and parking brake light is still on. drove it around for a while to see if check engine would come back on but no such luck. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have luck. I guess i'll give the abs speed sensor a shot and if it doesn't fix the problem I'll have to wait til check engine comes back on.
