Hey guys I also have a flex fuell 2010 1500. My only experience with E-85 is with my 2003 EVO. E-85 loves to be run in forced induction cars with hi comp. ratios and a ton of timing! On 91oct I made 320awhp, on E-85 I made 400awhp All I changed was fuel...but that fuel let me run 30lbs of boost and a ton of timing cause Ethanol does not knock like 91oct. Oh another thing here in California we dont get winter blends of E-85 cause we dont have to worry about cold starts like you cold weather states. Cant wait to run it in my truck after I fab up a turbo kit.

I don't doubt that E85 produces more HP, but that's not what I was going to use it for. For me it was strictly about saving money at the pump. Still trying to decide if I should buy a programmer or not..

DPC16 keep me updated on your turbo build.. I'll have alot of questions about it when you do!

I've always viewed it somewhat as a wash, you pay less for the fuel but it doesn't go as far.

For me so far, it looks like E85 is about 20% cheaper then the cheapest gasoline.. but my fuel economy suffers about 18%.

E85 @ 2.30 a gallon vs 87 gasoline @ 2.86(last time I checked)
2.30/2.86= ~20% savings in gas
11.5 MPG vs 14 MPG
11.5/14= ~18%

So am I correct in thinking that E85 is still the more cost effective way to go (by lol2%)?

Well then yeah I would say you're money ahead. I think a programmer would help you pull some hp out of it, but I'm not sure about fuel economy. I'm not sure what afr the pcm is trying to use for the e85. Usually a pcm is set for 14.7 afr for gasoline, which is lean super lean for e85. So basically if it is that lean already I wouldn't lean it out anymore.

I just ordered superchips for my flex fuel 4.7L (2010) and the sales man said if you run the tuner with E85 it can and most likely will cause damage, which I don't believe but am not going to try without other support lol. I think they are just covering their butts, just thought I would add this as a drawback for if you had your truck tuned and sort of forgot and filled up with E85 and possibly caused damage...

I don't see how E85 saves money when you have to burn a greater quantity of it. I make a point to run ethanol free gasoline in my engine.

It should be noted that I have been doing more city driving on this tank then Ive done in the past with gasoline.. my errands just worked out that way.

I emailed someone at Diablo Sport and asked them if they had an E85 preset. He said no but I could still increase the engine timing as much as I needed for the higher octane. He then told me that the programmer COULD help increase my MPGs on Ethanol BUT they would never be as high as Gasoline.

I still plan on getting a tuner anyway no matter if I use E85 or Gas.
I ran E85 in my 07 It took it from around 16 to 11.5 on the next tanks. So regular gasoline it is..
