Default Tire Pressure

Hey Guys-relatively new to the site. I searched for the topic of tire pressures, but the posts I saw really didnt answer my question. So here goes..
I have 17 stock rims/tires and am curious if anyone has increased their pressure past whats recommended (35psi on door). I was thinking of 38-40..not sure if this would be wise or not..Thanks for your help!

the pressure on the door usually gives a smoother ride, but i like it higher for better fuel milage. i usually split the difference between that number and the max on the sidewall mine also are 17" 35 on the door 50 max on sidewall i've got them with 42 lbs now

Never go beyond the MAX pressure on the sidewall of the tire because when your tires heat up the amount of air will increase on it's own.

You will change tires throughout the life of the vehicle so you can't always check back to the door sticker. The sidewall ratings are specific to that given tire instead of the generality of the door sticker. I have three vehicles with three different tire ratings. I can't remember them all so I check the tire every time I check the air pressure.

im past the 35 psi mark right now because from where its so cold here it keeps setting off my tire pressure sensor in my wheels so i put mine up to i think its 38psi just so it doesnt keep setting it off so yes you can go past the recommended door sticker pressure but you will get a rougher ride and like someone else here mentioned NEVER go above the max number thats on the tire

I agree. The door sticker is a suggestion. The max psi amount stamped on the tire is not to be exceeded.

Just understand that over inflation will accelerate wear on the center of the tread.
