Question Amsoil EAA Filter

Anyone use these dry replacement filters instead of the K & N drop in. Is there any advantages / disadvantages of the oiled vs. dry? They are almost the same price, so I was just curious! The website talks a mean game!

heres another test done on oil v dry that you can read also. Last fall I had put the oem filter back in while my KnN was drying out after a cleaning. The truck felt punchy to where I was a little impressed. I dont know if it was because I had 10k on my KnN or what. I decided to put KnN back on the next day though, (Keep the faith) Ill be looking at some of these dry replacement oem filters now that I have a wide band gauge, it can help me see whats going on at WOT peak readings. You always see these oem replacement filters on sale all the time anyways. Yup I think KnN and its media machine is finally seeing its last days in my garage LOL, or any expensive aftermarkert "perfomance" drop in for that matter.

Thanks guys..it lookes like the oiled filter gets killed in everything except max flow, but I don't think I need max flow! I might not even need the amsoil, we'll see!

the article is a bit dated, so there's a good chance that the companys has improved their products. In general, its nice to see an independant do a study on the available filters. I believe Ill be picking up an ac delco filter next. They should be on sale at autozone sometime this month I figure I can just take it out at the track to do runs.
Believe me, KnN has possibly gotten me for close to 2 grand these past 20 years. So its not like I wasnt pulling my weight

SWEEEEEET!!!! I had that exact same post 'saved to favs' but it 'disappeared' from the host site it was on!

Good to see it's alive and well 'elsewhere'!!!!

Its hard to say Delco is the absolute best filter for each and every application,,, i.e. car, truck, gas, diesel, etc, but K + N has never been a fav of mine,,,, Typically because even a brand new one held up to the light looks like Swiss cheese!!!!

Yeah, I'm sure K + N will flow, but even K + N indicates their OEM drop ins only add about ~2~ HP,,,,,

IMHO, if one of the 'free'er flowing' drop ins only adds 2 HP, well, why bother??

Also, probably just me, but these 'washable' air filters are kinda funky,,,, How do ya know you're getting ALL the dirt out? (Point being, a new paper drop in is always 100% clean)
Being too aggressive during cleaning can certainly F your filter up big time, and then you'll be suckin dirt all day long,,, (Point being, a new paper drop in is always in 'new' condition)
Cleaning and oiling sucks, no doubt about it. Ok, well maybe a dry filter suck 'less'?
I tried a Fram dry synthetic in my old Silvy,,, That Fram POS sucked because it literally took HOURS and HOURS to dry!!! Got fed up waiting, stuck in in, and took off,,, water on a MAF sensor is a BAD thing!!!!

And, I guess while I'm on a roll here, I'll 'knock' on Amsoil a bit,,,, I'm not saying its bad stuff, but have you ever noticed their charts and graphs are completely void of hard data??? Ok, the blue bar is taller than the red bar, and the orange bar is shorter still, sooooo,,, Blue bar is a winner??? You'll be hard pressed to actually have them include brand names, much less what the actual numerical 'values' are that are represented in the charts,,,

Currently, I can get PUREONE oil filters for $5 each delivered and Wix air filters for $12.14 each delivered. (Amazon) I stock up on Mobil One for $4 a qt on Black Fridays,,,, So,,, Life is good, quick, clean, and virtually effortless!!!

The thing about K&N I think is they are just mass producing the filters and not paying ebough attention to the Q&A. If they are selling them why really change em? People just know the name and they think it is the best thing out there.

I agree with the comment above about "why bother for only 2hp?". You may as well go with the OEM to be safe, and also like mentioned you know it is always 100% clean since it is new.
