Default Break in period prior to towing?

I was wondering if anyone knew if and how much of a break in period is required on the 6.7L Cummins prior to towing. Also, the manual says first oil change is at 7500 miles, any thoughts on whether this is ok or if it should be before that?

There is no break in period required before towing.

This is the oil change guideline from the diesel engine supplement:

When prompted by the Engine Oil Indicator System, the engine oil and filter must be
changed. If not prompted by the Engine Oil Indicator System within 7,500 miles
(12 000 km) or 6 months since the last oil and filter change, change the engine oil and
engine oil filter. Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 7,500 miles
(12 000 km) or 6 months, whichever comes first.

When I bought my '11 3500 Chevy Sierra, the dealership told me to drive on the highway for 100 miles in one trip before any towing. Not sure what is reccomended for the Cummins but the right knowledgable truck person at your dealership should be able to tell you. Also, I think my manual has tips in it for the break-in period so I would suggest looking there as well (perhaps you already have).

Nice truck.

From the body builder's (2011 Towing Basics section) guide on http://www.ramtrucks.com

Quote:
Engine break-in procedures Caution:
􀁺 During the first 805 km (500 miles) a new vehicle is
driven, do not tow a trailer. Doing so may damage the
vehicle.
􀁺 Limit speed to (80 km/h) 50 mph during the first 805
km (500 miles) of towing.

According the both the owner's manual and the DVD that came with our Rams:

500 miles to break in the engine and then about 300 or so towing @ 50 MPH max to break the engine in for towing. I already did the engine break in and I'm going to be doing the tow break in here in the next couple of weeks when I take my buddies Charger down to the shop in FL to get some work done on it.

Nevermind... Root Beer beat me to it.. ROFL (gotta love the edit feature)

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I did wait until after the first 500 miles to hook it up, however, I did go a little faster than 50 mph at times, hope that didn't damage anything. I only towed maybe 100 miles though.
