Default Tranny problem - uh #3 tranny? Come on!

I'm the 3rd owner of this truck. 1998 2500 4x4 5.9V8 auto.

The 1st/2nd were father/son. They towed a medium sized 5th wheel occasionally. I purchased last year with 104,xxx miles. Previous records show tranny rebuilt at 79k and again at 94k.

NOW - I'm having issues when truck is warmed up...it wants to hold the 3-4 shift unless I let off the throttle then it will upshift. I'm one of those who freaks out when something like this goes wrong. I've been looking at other trucks to buy, but nothing says "buy me".

I deprogrammed my superchips to see if that was the issue and it still acts up.

1 - any ideas as to what this would be and is it a simple fix?

2 - AAMCO wanted $600 to remove and bench the tranny to inspect it for problems. Instead of $600 for just an inspection...I'm considering buying a reman'd tranny/converter with HD shift kit installed for $1400. Do any of you have recommendations on engine/tranny shops in the Phoenix area or who will ship?

I'm just wondering with the list of 'wants/needs' new tranny (1400), 375hp performance engine (5500) - do I just hang it up and go for a nice used Hemi model for $10-15k?

Well, If it's HP you're looking for, the Hemi is the way to go plus you'd have a different trans (545RFE).

I would put your money towards a hemi instead of throwing all that money at that truck. Hemi's are a much more mod happy platform anyways and you get the bonus of having a better transmission

OK - checked out by local tranny shop. Its a governor pressure sensor with a cost of about $270 installed. The guy said otherwise the shifts felt good and solid. Sooo hopefully a relatively inexpensive repair and leaves money for the Airgap install!

Decision is made - keep my baby means no truck payments!

Truck is at AAMCO/Cottmans getting tranny rebuild with shift kit. I will have a nice warranty to back it up too.

This way for 1/3 costs of getting another used truck with Lord knows what - I can get a helluva engine/new tranny/and bolt ons for even more power! I'm a sucker for the old look anyway.
