Default What do you guys think......

About one inch wheel spacers for my truck? I would like my wheels to stick out a little more but don't want to spend $1k on new rims. I've heard that wheel spacers will chew up your wheel bearings though so I'm kinda undecided. I've also thought about 1/4 in spacers but I don't think they would stick out as much as I would like. Any pics would be appreciated also, thanks.

I would say don't go for it. Sounds like a bad idea and good way to screw something up.

From what I've read on here, 1/2" spacers are about the max you should ever go.

This is correct, remember that the spacer takes away from thread length, so your jug nuts wont have as much to bite onto. Also you put more stress on the bolts when moving a wheel that far away from the hub. I really wouldnt even go the 1/2i either but its been done.

I had a Nissan Frontier with 1.5 inch wheel spacers on it with 33" BFG's and a 3" lift. Sounds like I might have been at risk all along huh?
I never had any issues with the spacers (rubbing etc..., could the difference in truck weight have anything to do with it?

Also, my old Nissan never rubbed even while offroading. With the suggested 1/4" wheel spacers that most Ram owners are going with for clearance, do they rub while doing some 4x4ing?

Sorry for the multi questioning and hopefully answers to these questions will help you decide as well Torq89.

The thing is you are looking at a wheel adapter. I think that is a little better then a spacer since you are keeping the length of the stock bolts. they are slightly different. Usually the adapters are used to change the bolt pattern, but in this case not.

I really am not sure about the safety of using spacers. It is such a contriversal product that I am not sure which side is true. I think keepign it to 1/4" or even 1/2" is the safest bet. You are still putting the stress on the bearing either way you go. Just hanging the wheel+tire out so much does have soem strain. Especially with a truck and some big heavy tires.

Thanks for the help guys. I probably won't buy the adapters/spacers until spring so I have some time to sit on it.
