Im running an 04 half ton with the 5.7 auto tranny. the truck has power to spare, but it doesnt seem to make it past the transmission. i haul about a thousand pounds of tools in it on a daily basis, and it seems like it should have a lot more snot in the higher gears than it does. this is the second auto dodge i've had and i'm on the 5th tranny between the two of them, so i'm still not a fan of the autos in these trucks.
anyway, once in a while the tranny will kick down under a load, but not a full gear, only changing RPM by a few hundred. i've asked a few mechanics about this and i keep hearing about an additional clutch in the torque convertor in these things to help save on gas. im not too knowlegeable about the auto trannys, but to me it seems like the clutch is'nt grabbing when it should be.
maybe this is normal for these trucks, but it's getting old driving the damn thing everyday
am i making this up or did i just get a bad egg?
