Default anybody ever do a street cam?

me and the brother are thinkin about putting a cam in his 5.9 when we fix the knock in the engine or get a new engine to work with i was wondering if anyone on here has ever done mild street cams with their 5.9's. if so what size, brand and where did you get it and if its worth doing. and if you do this what other parts you need to have this mild cam to make it run right, like bigger injectors or pcm flashes or something, i know you usually need stronger valve springs and different length pushrods. also is there kits you can buy to get everything you need for it. were gonna do it pretty soon so any info ASAP.

thank guys

Depends on what you call miled, I guess. If you're looking at what's generally referred to as an "RV" cam that's meant to make low range torque and pulling power, then the stock setup will work with a mild tune at most. What I call a street cam would need bigger injectors, a throttle body, headers, stall converter and a custom tune.

You're best bet is to do what randy said as his idea of a street cam lol. Cause you'll get used to the power and want more after a week.

haha well all we want is just a little more power than stock. its probably never coming apart after it gets put toghether, we dont have alot of money. can we get away with putting a small cam in it (bigger than stock) not aggressive but you know what i mean with just the stiffer springs and right size pushrods and new lifters? i feel bad for my brother im trying to do as much as i can for em cuz were just turning 18 and we dont have alot of money and his trucks been sittin for about a week now lol. so cheepest way even if its not VERY cheap dont have to make a ton of power, hes been wantin to do this for a while. do u think we could get away with it?

An "RV" cam can typically be used with stock springs and stock length pushrods negating the expense of these parts.

RV cams generally make power from off idle up to about 4500 rpm which is what you want for a truck, especially if does much towing or hauling. The entire cam profile is what makes it work, not just lift. If you just want more life, you can increase the rocker arm ratio and do that but your duration and overlap will remain the same.

I don't have actual dyno numbers for a projected gain. For info like that and help picking a cam that will do what you want, you really should call someone like Summit, Jegs, Doug Herbert, or the cam company of the brand you prefer.
