Default Is valvoline a better oil?

I have used valvoline over 40 years in a variety of vehicles. 100 % success with up to 6000 miles between changes. Almost zero oil consumption! I decided to try mobile one syn. in my ram hemi at 7500 miles. Now at 8500 miles its down a half a quart and quite dirty. Guess i,m going back to what i have always trusted. Has anyone else experienced this? This hemi did not use a drop of oil before the switch.

Can't say I have. I was also a long time Valvoline user before switching to M1. I haven't had any consumption issues in my truck. The fact the oil is getting dirty so fast makes me think the Valvoline may not have been as good at keeping your engine clean and the M1 is picking up what was left behind. I can't say this is a fact, just a suspicion.

Thats odd because my experiances with Valvoline are quite differiant (it causes engines to use oil). Mobil 1 is the better way to go without a doubt.

Mobil 1 in all my vehicles and never had an issue, I tend to agree with RamTech's theory.

Ramtech might be correct. I bought this ram used with 4500 miles on the odometer. The dealer used valvoline bulk oil with a fresh change when i bought it. The bulk oil is probably not as good as I buy in the bottles.

It's the same stuff but it's often difficult to say if their bulk oil is the correct weight.

I too have used nothing but valvoline in all the dodges ive owned over the years even back to the 70's...used valvoline 50 weight racing oil in my challenger....I did try valvolines synth.for higher mileage engines and I too started using oil...I am convinced the synth. oil blew my plenum gasket and it was blowing oil down the intake...you could see the wet oil laying on the valley pan in the intake...and of course there's the old hold your hand over the oil filler hole and see if it sucks or blows.....but after putting regular valvoline back in and changing the gasket...not a bit of troulble since....
