When I first got mine, it seldom when into MDS mode, and when it did, I knew it! Now, it spends more time in MDS then not, and the driving conditions are far more demanding than when I got it. I noticed a rather radical change in operation around the 3000 mile mark. More power, better mileage, smoother running....all positives.

Try your best to remember in detail how it performs/operates right now, and remind yourself of that in another 2500 miles......then let us know what your thoughts/experiences are.
Thanks Brad. I figured it was due to break-in issues. Both of my Chargers I bought brand new but couldn't remember if the MDS came on much when I first bought them.

I'm almost at 500 miles and I still haven't seen the "Fuel Saver" light come on. I'm taking a trip in it next weekend, hopefully I can see it then. It's becoming an obsessive hunt for me, like looking for Nessie, or Bigfoot or the legendary Chupacabra. It's getting warmer around here, so I left out the Yeti.

You dont have the "Fuel Saver" light, just the "ECO" light.

If you have the radio off and your driving with out any distraction, you will know when its happening. Then again, you may just drive with such a heavy foot that it never turns on,

So do all the 5.7L hemi's have MDS equipped?

I think I have this feature because when I am at highway speeds and try to accellerate it takes a moment for it to really get moving.

I'm guessing thats the MDS disengaging.

That is more like normal drive train lag... MDS takes a 40th of a second to switch from 4 to 8 cylinders. Who knows tho, may be a combo of both

In the 1500's, Yes.

I have to agree. Although it will happen under certain 'ideal' conditions, MDS operation is somewhat rare during normal highway driving.

Partial relationship -
You can be in ECO mode without MDS....but not the other way.
In order for the MDS to kick in, you must already be driving in 'ECO' mode.
I follow the way you think it works, except, what do you mean by "over fueling"?

from everything that i read, if you see the ECO mode indicator displayed, you are in MDS mode

so from what i can tell from reading, not personal knowledge, the ECO mode & MDS may be the same thing.

the Fuel Saver Light is a bit different than ECO mode, although the ECO mode & the Fuel Saver Indicator Light may be on at the same time, under certain conditions

I Agree.
The "Eco-mode" message is clearly tied more to throttle position, rpm, and engine temperature, than it is to "driving in the most economical fashion".
You can drive economically like granny up long inclines, but it won't come on.
You can let off the gas pedal and start braking going downhill, or to stop for a traffic light, and "Eco" comes on. Both these examples are negatives for good MPG.
So logically that's not what it is.
I wish I could view Chrysler's code logic on this indicator display, so we could put this debate to rest.

I think he might be thinking that the engine may go into enrichment as the throttle gets close to wide open when operating on 4 cylinders. I don't think this is the case since they probably transition back to 8 cylinders before it gets to this point, I could be wrong though.
