if u want better protection synthetic oils offer better cold and hot temp conditions.cold flows easier than dino.hot high temps oil can break down loose viscosity then turn to sludge.obviously some oil formulas are more prone to this but synthetics do not.all oil synthetic or not needs to be changed before it begins to break down.city driving and short trips decrease life of oil.

I use any of these 3 filters, Wix, Napa, or Purolator. Avoid fram filters.
Oil I use is Valvoline 5w30.

Yes and yes ... but not by first hand experience. I have run mobile 1 in am Ram from the first change so I can't comment much on the difference before and after. The older 4.7 is somewhat prone to sludging. I'm not sure the new one has experience these problems yet but there is of course a time factor. Randy (our residence Dodge tech) has said (I seem to remember) that he has never seen sludge in a properly maintained 4.7 with with full synthetic. Plus if you have any tendency to miss the oil change window the full synthetic is good insurance.

Zonestar (I belive) once posted a really good guide to what is definition of oil by classes. It boiled down too the only two truely full synthetic oils commericial viable in the US are Mobile1 and AmsOil. If I can find the link I'll repost.

when some1 starts talking about a true synthetic it usaully talks about the base that it is made of or starytys with.all sythetics start witha base that has all impurities removed than additives are added for viscosity/akaline/acid reducers/cleaning agents stabilizers and so on .as for sythetic oil changed at 5k miles i dont believe it can cause sludge because oil has to break down and seperate and turn to tar(sludge) and yes amsoil and mopbil1 are the tops in most independant tests but around here are very expensive compared to some synthetics that are good enough.todays dino oils are better than oils of 70s,80,90s that were notorious for causing sludge.oils made from group1 and group II bases.

I'm a fan of Mobil 1 5W20 with a K&N oil filter. Ive had Mobil 1 in every car I've owned since 1995 & never had any signs of sludge.

Mobil 1 is a a group III synthetic as are all the synthetics you buy at walmart, auto zone, pep boys etc. The true syntheics are group IV/V. Amsoil and Redline are the only two.
