Hello, all. My name is Steve. I'm new to the forum. I am the owner of a 1999 Dodge Ram V6 2WD AT REG CAB with 50,000 miles. My wife and I are thinking of purchasing a 15' travel trailer that has a dry weight of around 2,600lbs. I'm confused about the towing capacity of my Ram though? I have been told by several mechanics and from what I've read on the internet that I can safely tow (without any modifications) up to 3,400lbs (including gear, gas and passengers). According to the manual (without any modifications) I can safely tow 2,100lbs (including gear, gas and passengers). I also read on several Dodge forums (not this one) that if I add a heavy-duty transmission cooler, leaf helper springs, change to synthetic rear axle fluid that I could safely tow up to 3,800lbs. Who do I believe??? I just purchased the truck four months ago, never intending on towing a camper, and don't feel like buying a new one. I guess I just want to know what I can safely tow with my truck. I am more than willing to spend the money for modifications if it'll truly help out. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!
