No doubt there is a similar bearing in the upper part of the column, but getting to that one would be a lot more work. Plus, I'm told that the columns are pressed together and that none of the internal parts are available separately. You're probably doing the best thing you can, but you might try using some good spray grease (and not the cheapo white stuff that comes from China) instead of WD40. WD40 is a staple for us rednecks, but the downside of it is that it gradually dries out and loses lubrication properties. Plus, over time it can build up a gum that can cause sticky parts to stick together even worse.

I'm a gun collector, and one of our top no-no's is using WD40 to lube your weapons, precisely because of the sticky gum that develops. So I would get some ZEP or something with equal properties.
