Default TERRIBLE gas milage

I bought an enclosed trailer today. 8'x20'. I towed it with my 05 dodge ram 1500 hemi from alabama to mississippi and i averaged 6.9 miles to the gallon. OMFG. I am driving to alaska this weekend with it and with a car in it. what can i do to get better milage?

What octane are you running? When I'm towing a trailer with 3 ATV's my mileage goes down to about 9 from a 12 avg. I found that when I run 89 or 91 octane my mileage seemed to get better especially when towing.

Hmm, with that enclosed trailer it's going to be hard to get better mileage. It probably catches a ton of wind. Hopefully someone else can provide some tips.

How fast were you running?

Could be a number of reasons why: Needs tuneup, a headwind etc.....

Yeah, headwinds can kill you. Also whenever I'm towing long distances I find a nice 18wheeler and tailgate the shit outta them.

If you can find a way of getting the air from the back of your truck to lift over the trailer it might help a little. (Air Foil) Edge products also has a gas computer to alter the engine and help with gas milage and it has a tow setting but not sure how good it works on a dodge. I had it on my last chev.

My cousin just hauled a couple bikes from pittsburgh to daytona in the same size trailer with an 08 Ram Hemi, he said he averaged 9-10 mpg through the whole trip(calculated by hand) He said he would try to up it from gas station to gas station to keep himself busy, further south he got, the better fuel mileage he got and fuel got cheaper too.
With a mast behind you like an enclosed trailer there really isnt all that much you can do to up your mpgs
Have a safe trip to alaska!

I would try to do a little research of gas prices in places you may be planning to stop and bring a few gas cans with you to fill up where ever its the cheapest
