Default mobil 1

i was wondering, mobil 1 synthetic is very good oil.made by imperial oil who also makes esso oil products, shell oil products and wait for it... canadian tire oil products.does this mean mobil 1 at 32 $ 4 quart jug is the same as canadian tires formula 1 100% synthetic 20 $ 4 quart jug?seems both meet same specs.just recently found out also canadian tire house brand filters are made by wixx hpoefully very same quality as well.

No, they're not the same, the M1 is in the same category as Amsoil and Royal Purple, it's considered a grade IV mineral oil based synthetic. The other synthetics are either a Grade III syn or a grade II blend. The grade II blends can be marketed as a synthetic as long as it's over a certain % (but off the top of my head I can't remember). A grade I oil is standard dino oil. I know for a fact that Formula 1 is infact a blend, it's not a true grade III... I was a manager for CTC and my bro's the parts/service manager at the Airdrie location. CTC sends the managers away for training courses, and the bro and I got to hit up the tire and oil seminars more than a few years ago.

Oh, and Shell makes their own oil, as does IOR (Imperial/ExxonMobil); they're major competitors for industrial lubricants.

Motomaster is a line of automotive products sold exclusively at Canadian Tire stores. Products branded as Motomaster range from small items, such as oil filters, which were manufactured by FRAM (as of 2009, the oil filters are manufactured by Bengbu JinWei Filters Co.,Ltd of China)

i researched Motomaster oil
first made by Imperial Oil
then made by ESSO Oil
now or more recently made by SHELL OIL

i would look at the bottle, likely near the bottom backside,
all my different brand oil bottles have the oil company info there

what's the consensus on Petro-Can synthetics? i hear a lot about the others but if i can support a canadian company i'd rather (ya, Suncor is still canadian from what i know)

and ya, in most cases there's a quality difference in brand name products vs. generic
