I use a lot of laptops in my business. We rent them out. The only ones that have consistently stood up are the HP 'n' series. That's any one that the model number starts with an 'n' (nc6320, nw8440, etc.). The 'd' series are a consumer grade, where the 'n' series are a commercial grade. Lately, I have been buying them as Lease Returns, and can get a commercial grade unit for less than a consumer unit.

I also deal with clients wanting to connect their laptops to the data projectors in the rooms, and I have noticed the HP and Lenovo laptops are the least problematic of all. Toshiba is close behind, but their method of handling external video sucks.

Good luck with your search....there is so much to choose from these days.

I will never buy another Dell, they dont stand behind their Brand New Products, so dont even bother calling customer service... I owned an HP desktop for 10 years and never had a problem then one day it just quit, so with the great experience I had with it I bought an HP laptop about a year ago and yesterday I destroyed it on the garage floor ( pos ) I bought my daughter an ACER and it has been the best laptop considering how much a teen uses one, and my wifes GATEWAY has been loyal to her as well, so I am going to try one as soon as money permits... I think I will go with either of the two. It is entirely up to you what brand you like, the features and so on.

I would go with Asus if I were you. They usually make some of the higher end gaming laptops so when it comes to making any other laptops they are pretty damn good at making them. I bought one from them a year or so ago and I honestly will probably never buy another brand laptop. The one I have is half metal, half plastic unlike the rest of the ones you see that are ALL plastic.

I have both, and find that I prefer the portability of the laptop. I use the desktop for my art, photography and the laptop is for my browsing, emailing and anything I need to take other places. If you have to have just one go with a laptop it gives you maximum flexability.

Good Luck, Ed

Yeah, I basically need the same. I need a good computer with a significant amount of memory to run photoshop and other programs.
