Default washed my truck today and was a little disappointed...

so while spraying down the truck i sprayed off the wheels and realized that the 20" rims arent nice chrome wheels but they are 20" rims with plastic covers that are chromed. that bites, and here i thought the rims were nice like my dads 20's that came on his 2006 which have no gay plastic cover thats chromed... i am disappointed now in the wheels, i guess i will have to save up now and buy some real rims...

It's the future of stock wheels. A lot of manufacturers are now resorting to the chrome clad.

Yep-my previous truck, '08 F-250, had the fake chrome wheels too.

I've had my Ram two days. I washed it today and found out the very same thing. Lame! Oh well, time to buy some rims.

Don't feel bad guys, this has been true since 2003 with the first 20" rims. I had a 2005 and 2008 as well as my 2011 with them. But as stated there are are lot of manufacture's that are using them.

But the good news is.....they look great and their real easy to take care of. Throw a coat of wax on them once a year and they look like new forever..... no real care like in actual chrome or aluminum rims.

Same thing on my 07.. I will be buying some rims soon as well..

For now, they are easy to clean, and keep shiny. They are cheaper to replace of you have to and after you get your new ones, you can sell them for a few bucks..

I found a guy in Florida that offered $800 for my wheels and tires towards a trade for some aftermarket SRT10 wheels and tires.. I think thats what I will do once I have some more cash flow...

Unless he changed his wheels, his are plastic covers too. My 06 was. Like the other guy said, they've done it since 03 or so. That being said. I don't understand why people mind it. Normal chrome rims are just plated over steel usually and eventually rust and peel off, it's not like they're chrome the whole way through either, so why is it an issue that there is a plated cap over the aluminum wheel? It looks virtually identical to what a normal chrome wheel would look like, and it should never rust underneath the chrome, so it rarely has lifting problems, plus the base wheel is aluminum instead of steel (which is what regular chrome wheels usually have as a base. I think they're a great setup and people are just hard on it because they're sort of like a glorified hubcap. I haven't seen many issues with these wheels, I think it is a great solution on dodge's part and once the negative stigma wears off, people realize that it is by far the best way to do it for a daily driver.
