MDS didn't appear in the Ram until the 2006 model year.

So what is everyone's opinion on MDS... I've heard from some people to turn it off, and others to keep it on.

I am in the same boat. This is the first Ram with a Hemi I have owned (2007 model) and have no clue if it had MDS and how to turn it on/off.

My 07 had the MDS when I bought it, It has cat-back exhaust and when the 4 cylinder mode kicked in it sounded like a 15 year old FedEx truck. I ended up buying a Superchips 3865 for the truck and disabling the MDS and love it! I'm getting between 16-17 mpg hand calculated with my mods so I am not missing the MDS. My truck also seemed to hesitate before it re-enter 8 cylinder mode which was annoying. I know the Diablo Predator programmer can also disable the MDS, and have heard dealers can flash it off of the ECU (not 100% sure of this).

It seems if you keep the stock exhaust and the MDS is working correctly most people do not mind it. It really comes down to a personal preference and mine was that I bought 8 cylinder truck and would like to use all of them.

The dealer has no capability to disable MDS.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up ... looks like a programmer may be the only way then.

No, It depends if you want to turn it of permanently, or just on occasions like city driving just put the drive shift in 5th and that turns off the MDS and will go through all the gears naturally.

I'm just glad I got the last model year before they decided to start changing things around I've heard about that exhaust problem before on the ones with MDS and it just makes me that much happier that I don't have it, even though it may cost me a bit more for gas.

It's not a problem but more of an irritation for people with aftermarket exhausts. Flowmasters sound particularly bad with the MDS engaged.
