From my experience, oil filters don't often clog. Most of my traveling is on road and I only subject my truck to off road conditions when I take my 4 wheeler out to ride. I think I probably will change it at 5k just to be safe though.

I've got about 2k on the oil as of now and so far nothing unusual has cropped up, but i wouldn't expect it to at this point.

I have heard good things about the extended performance M1, they released it to compete with Amsoil and their so called 20-30k oil changes. I dont believe either claim, and I'm anal about oil so I change mine every 2k miles, def overkill but its how i roll

Yeah it is.. Just make sure you read and use the recommended quantity. Also remember if you put it in your oil you have to put it in at the oil change with new oil run it for 250-300 miles and change your oil again.

When is a good time to switch to synthetic? I can do the oil changes on base in the auto shop...lift and all, so it would be easy to do! I only get my oil chnged at the dealer because they will buy my next set of tires, but I hate them and want 22's I have 8,000 miles and have had 2 oil changes done, getting close to the third...if you catch my drift

The earlier the better when switching to synthetic. But once you switch you cant go back to traditional oil. The reason you switch earlier is because when gaskets break down traditional oil fills the tiny cracks. If you switch to synthetic the synthetic oil will actually pull the traditional out of the asket and might cause a leak. So switch at the earliest time possible
