Default Sludge and rough idle update

Just a note to update the group on my sludgy engine that is running very rough. No problem with the ignition side, but after doing a compression check, I discovered that cylinders 2 thru' 8 had a compression of 130 to 145 psi. Number 1 had a rating so low it would not move the needle. I pulled the valve cover off and jogged the engine - all the valves appeared to be moving up and down in a normal fashion. So, I suspect my next step will be to pull the head. Now I need to get the special service tools that the manual says I need. Any suggestions or words of advice

IMO change your oil is the best you can do, im using a oil catch can too. And using Chevron supreme 10w-40 with bosch filter. and that works for me. oh, and put your foot into the gas pedal some times to to rev the machine.
Again Sorry for my english

Well, it looks like I have discovered why my 4.7 is sluggish, has a rough idle and no power. Please take a look at these photos and give me some advice on why this happened. I intend to replace rather than repair this engine. I just don't want to repeat it a second time. Anyone know where I can get a decent engine at a decent price in Canada - specifically Winnipeg, Manitoba?

Maybe I can replace it with a Hemi - anyone got advice on that road?

wow nice pics i could see that hole causing some power loss, lol.well doesnt seem like an oil issue seems like a pre ignition problem can cause the build up and damage around plug holes and possibly the hole in ur piston.

I see evidence of water intrusion in the #1 cylinder. The carbon buildup isn't likely to be from a rich fuel mixture unless you have defective upstream O2 sensors. The PCM is programmed to shoot for a 14.7:1 stoicometric air/fuel ratio. Can't say I've ever seen a pedestal come off a tensioner like that before.

It's Canada - so it's 1/2 gas - 1/2 antifreeze. lol I have used 100% synthetic oil and regular gas since I got the truck.
