Moved to Cummins Specific section.

I agree on using Banks for your diesel. Most programmers simply over fuel the engine to make power, raising EGT's and putting your turbo at risk.

Banks has always tested and sold integrated systems that well designed and do more than just over fuel to make power.

I had a full Banks system on a GM diesel truck I had and I never blew anything up even though I drove it hard and worked it even harder. And the HP and torque gains I received with that kit were impressive.

So yeah, I'd say Banks all the way.

Default Banks is good then?

On some of the other forums there is much said about Bully Dog, Edge, Smarty etc. I have a Six Gun in my new-to-me truck, but no controller. I have drooled over the new IQ for several reasons but wondered if Banks was good. I know their general reputation is good. Now that you explained the push for raw power it all seems to come into focus.

Thanks for the discussion. I would love to see a real comparaison of all the programmers but I haven;t found anything like that... yet.

IMHO Generally speaking the Banks systems, $ for $ do not produce as much hp as some of the other programmers. Banks however has some of the best R&D in the industry. They also have built in "safety" systems so you can't do a lot of harm to your engine. Banks is usually priced a little higher than some of the other programmers. If you want a little more power and performance then Banks would be a good choice. If your going racing or pulling then there are cheaper programmers that produce lots more hp. Remember that when you increase your hp over about 100 you start to put your stock turbo and trans in jeopardy. After owning 3 cummins diesels I learned some of these lessons the hard(expensive)way.
