Default Electric Fan and MPG

Hello. I have an 07 Ram with MDS turned on, a Superchips programmer, Fitch Fuel Catalyst, and a Magnaflow muffler in place of the long round muffler between the 2 resonators. My question is...

Does anyone have real world experience with converting an 06+ Hemi from clutch fan to an electric fan? What MPG changes did you see?

I have a Taurus fan and a controller in the garage ready to go on...just need the time to do it.

Thanks.

Ted

Hi Ted, I wish I could answer your question. I have heard and read here that the MPG gain is minimal, but every little bit helps now a days. Good Luck with the installation.

I'd be remis in my duties as a MRM if I didn't invite you to post on the Newbie Checkin and say hello to all the people here I even make it easy by giving you a link in my SIG. Did you know you are one of over 23,000 members?

I did an electric fan a while back, no noticeable gain in mpg's but I can definitely feel the low end torque that it frees up by removing the clutch fan. The only time I even use the fan is in traffic where I'm stopped for a while so I just wired it to a switch and manually turn it on when I see the needle go past half way. I have a feeling if I put in the 180 degree t-stat I would almost never use it.

Thanks. Does anyone know if the fan has to come on what the ac or defroster are on? Why? Or can the fan be based strictly on coolant temp in the radiator via temp probe? Thanks.

Ted

defroster - don't know.
a/c - yes

if your fan comes with a relay kit it should have a wire for the a/c. found this link with a quick google.

gen IVs have an elec fan stock. others are running the Black Magic, Ford Taurus fan, Lincoln Mk8 fan, those are the only ones I can think of right now.

I mean what size. like are they running an 18inch e fan or 16? i believe my clutch fan is an 18" fan from what i could tell. We sell Hayden fans at my work so i planned on using one of them unless they arent that good?
