Default K&N CAI on sale @ Amazon

Someone else on this forum posted the news earlier that these were on sale at Amazon so I do not take any credit for finding it. I searched but could not find the original thread so I thought I would post a new one. Sorry for any duplication and many thanks to the original poster who found the deal.

The K&N Cold Air Intake kit (#63-1561) for the 2011 Ram 1500 is on sale at Amazon for $227.04. That includes shipping for me but I am an Amazon Prime member so I get free shipping. Not sure how much the shipping might be for non-Prime members but it can't be much. Besides, after shopping on-line at all of the major outlets, this was about $100 less than anybody else. Site says they have 7 left in stock but more on the way.

Just wanted to pass it along in case anyone else has been thinking about making a similar purchase.

Eh, I've heard bad things about the K&N cai for these 4th gens. I'll wait for the Airaid to go on sale at Autoanything.

Really? I would love to hear any kind of feedback you have been getting. Could be very useful before I put that thing on. I am not afraid to send it back unopened if there is some definitive proof out there that it might be a mistake. Any input would be appreciated.

I posted a separate thread (see link below) asking the same question as it also caused me some concern. MADDOG, who widely known as an expert on this forum, replied and said there should be nothing to worry about. Still think it might be best to call the dealer and make sure it has no effect on the warranty. I don't believe it does but a phone call to find out costs nothing.

Looks awesome stricnine. Thanks for the pics. Be sure and let us know what kind of HP and/or MPG improvement you see. Oh, and thanks for the autoanything.com tip.

I called the service department at the dealer where I bought my truck and they told me there was a slight risk the CAI could void my warranty. He said if the check engine light came on and they determined there was any damage caused by the filter letting through too much debris, it would void the engine warranty.

Whether or not they would actually do that, I don't know but it kind scared me a little bit. Still unsure as to whether I will make the CAI upgrade before the warranty runs out. Will likely check with a couple more local dealers to see if I get the same answer.

I gained about 5rwhp on my last 4.7 with the K&N set up when I dynoed it. Not very noticable. This is just part of the equation. The intake with a nice y pipe and free flowing exhaust is what helps in the top end on the Hemi.

As for the warranty, by law the dealership must prove that your intake caused damage to a part to refuse warranty service. (Example: Alternator goes bad they have to replace it as an intake can't cause an alternator to go bad)

Thanks. I probably just need to pucker up and make the upgrade. Like you, I also need to look into improving the exhaust about the same time to get the full effect. I have not decided yet which one to go with. I seriously doubt the dealer could call either one of those out on a warranty repair.

When available, I may also look at the Diablo Predator for tuning. From what I have read on this forum, it is easy to retune back to factory settings each time you take it in for service to keep the dealer from detecting it. But I want to wait until 1) they actually release the Predator for the 2011 and 2) the good folks on this forum have had a chance to try it out and report back to the rest of us.
