Default New Carrier?

I put the lift on and the 35's. I wanted to change the gearing. Dodge is telling me that I have 3.21's and 4Wheelparts is saying I should go to 4.56's.

The local shop is telling me that I will probably need a new carrier if I go that far.

SHould I need a new carrier? Is 4.56 the right gearing? I have a 2008 1500 2wd lifted 6 inches with 35's. I know I need new gearing, but 4.56 seems extreme. I tow a trailer on the highway once and a while.

Thanks.

I wouldn't do 4.56s. I would go with 4.10s.
You could even do 3.92s and be fine with the 35"s, but since you're going up anyways, you might as well go to 4.10s.
The 4.10s will be better on the tranny, and if you go bigger in the future, you'll want the 4.10s.

Well, I got the 3.90 gears. According to the shop, the carrier I had only allowed for certain gearing options. It was either what I already had, 3.90 or 4.55. So I went with 3.90.

I am happy with it so far.

3.90 should be fine! My buddy has an 06 4.7 2WD that is lifted 6" with stock gearing...it works, but works hard!!!

Yeah, I had 3.21. The online calculators say I should go with 3.55, but I think I am better off with 3.90s. It has a bit more kick now, lol.

Sounds like a winner and from the looks of it the truck is awesome - how about a few for showing it off?

4.56's aren't exactly overkill and would probably be wise if you plan on going any higher. But, if you're fine with your currrent height, 3.92's or 4.10's will get you by just fine.
