Default Unreasonable fuel mileage

Hello all. I am driving an '07 Megacab 1500 5.7 with 10k miles. I am only getting on the average 11.2 mpg running 89 octane per manufactures specs. this is regardless if running city or short stretch of highway, roughly 6-7 miles. I was getting 14 or so on same stratch of highway but no more. Any ideas? no mods or alterations to truck. everything is factory. thanks.

Could the crisis have made some oil refiners lessen their gas quality? There has been several threads on low mpg in the last 2 weeks

You have a heavy truck. No MDS......? The HEMI should have never made its way into the Mega. I guess there was a small niche for it but everyone that I have sold one to or heard bought one was unhappy with the MPGs. Most 1500's get average of 15mpg mixed so the extra weight of the 2500 Frame+ride height equals to worse gas mileage. You at least have the room in the cab, and the difference in gas mileage is not that much $$ wise. Figure out how much you would lose on trading that truck in on another 1500, or Diesel and you will see what you will have to make up in $$ for gas mileage. No programmers, headers, cold air intakes, snake oils will improve your mileage. Winter Fuel blends are out there right now and everyone is getting worse mileage. Hold on and it will get better. Keep your foot out of it, leave it in Tow Haul Mode, coast when you can, keep the filter clean, oil changed, and you will get the best that is possible. Only thing you can do is lower the front end, and run High Dollar Synthetics in the front and rear diffs, Trans, and engine. Keep all of your zerks greased and go at it. Good Luck...

Thanks to all for their response. I do feather the throttle whenever possible. I was planning on adding an exhuast. I have heard that a single pipe is better than a double. Any truth to this?

As long as you do not restrict the exhaust more then stock you are fine. BUT- - - - Opening up the exhaust to much will lose a little low end TQ.......Gassers are not like Diesels, and even Diesels will lose a little if not given a little more fuel at low rpms...
