Default Door guard removal

Thinking about removing the chrome door guards. Never wanted them to begin with. The dealer had put them up on "break up all that white" in his words. I prefer the cleaner look. Just curious as to whether the process to do this is the same as debadging (which I plan to do at the same time). Also, are they reusable...as in any chance of me selling them to make some extra bucks to put towards a different mod? Any quick tips/recommendations from anyone who has done this are appreciated.

They are like the badges and are held on with the ever wonderful 3M tape. You should be able to reuse them if you don't tear them up taking them off. Take your time and make sure you have a couple of eraser wheels.

Jury is out on that one. Gonna wait until the tint job is done first and then decide on the blackout. Open to opinions. Any suggestions?

Yup, it's just like removing the badging. The moldings are stuck on there with double sided sticky tape.

Any and every truck looks better with the pillar tape off.

I didn't take it down on my last truck and it cracked and peeled and ruined the appearance of my otherwise pristine dakota.

Trick is you gotta take it off early, before the paint begins to fade or it will look like your truck has a farmers tan.

Any tips (or thread links) for an easier removal?

Here is a thread that shows a white one with the tape off.

http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=77908

Give you a good idea of how yours will look.

There was a really good how to thread with pictures I found here before I did mine but I can't find it now.

Basically there is 1 screw on the inside of each door that holds the black trim piece at the bottom of the window.
You have to take that screw out and then you just peel the tape off (on a warm day) and put the screw back in.

There's really nothing to it, when I did mine the tape came off without leaving any glue behind.
Didn't need a heat gun or hair dryer, just let it sit facing the sun for a few minutes before you start.

If you take your time it might take you 20 minutes.

Excellent stuff. Thanks for sharing. Pics are exactly what I wanted to see. That tape is definitely coming off first chance I get. Then on to the door moldings and badges. Will get some before and after pics to post.
