Default No throttle in my cummins

Alright so heres the scoop. I am having throttle issues with my 97 dually. As you drive and press the pedal down it will just stop working. The truck wont shut off but it will drop to idle and you can have the pedal on the floor and nothing. If you shut the key off and then back on, the throttle will work again though. Any ideas?

I wonder if it has thrown any codes? Does the Cummins have a drive by wire system? How many miles on your truck?

I don't remember where I was reading of another similar issue and the poster did a replacemet of some drive by wire component. I'll do a search to see what they did.

From what I've seen 5.9s hardly throw codes. I dont know much about the throttle and linkage on 2 gens but it sounds like a switch problem to me

My 02 did the same thing at 80,000 miles. It was in the fuel pump, and was common, but if IIRC, yours has a different pump

hello y'all.

ok. so up 94 to early 98 all cummins ram motors were powered by the bosch p7100 (pPUMP) pump which is 100% mechanical injection. there is only 1 electronic part on it, and that is the fuel shut down solenoid. if turning your ignition on and off helps, I'd check there.

the reason why you won't throw any codes is there is no way the computer know what's wrong with the pump.

130k is nothing for your motor I hope you know. and there is no drive by wire on the mechanical injected cummins, not unless you count the vacuum operated cruise control

-93 was the ve mechanical pump, 94-98 was the p7100 mechanical pump, 98.5-02 was the vp44 electronic pump and 24 valve head, 03 and up uses the high pressure common rail cp3 pump
