Default rear end noise

currently at 23k on my june build 2010. about 3k ago I started getting a whine/howl from the rear diff. normally you hear noise in a diff under deceleration. this noise happens under acceleration. wonder if some of those soft chinese axle bearings are in our 2010's as well as 11's?

Well if it is those bearings then be smart about it pull out the shafts and buy some American made Timken's and of course degrease and repack everything. Change out the differential fluid if you haven't with some Valvoline and some Trans-X Posi-Trac, You don't have to use Valvoline but I think it's the best, I do recommend the Posi-Trac because you have a Hypoid gear and it is required by Dodge to have an additive like this, the Posi-Trac is a replacement for the Chrysler Additive and works great.

not sure who made it, but its the '10 model with the rubber plug in the cover. in a cost saving exercise the axle bearings were sourced from china.

I believe I read that there is a factory recall or notice about 2010 rear end problems, might check this forum or contact your dealer

Take in to the dealer. Saw a post on the 09 forum about a similar issue. His rear diff seized while driving and broke lots of stuff.

most likely a dana. check on the top of the rear axle for a plate with numbers on it. Also, my 02' has been whining/grinding. Positive it is pinion bearings gone bad, which of course caused my seal to go bad. You can also go to your Stealer and give them your vin and they will tell you what rear end is in it.

Rubber plug is the Chrysler Axle. Their is two different sizes the 9.25 and 8.5. The best way to make sure this is the Chrysler Axle is to take a photo and send it to me and I can tell you for sure. Take a photo of the axle housing at the back, where the plug is, Try to get atleast a picture of half of the housing. Send it to frankcovending@gmail.com If it's Chrysler which I'm sure it is, I can provide you with any torque specs and measurements you would need when removing the shafts.
