Ok when theres a quarter of a tank or less in my truck, it wont crank easily, sometimes none at all. and when it does the mixture is so rich that it'll burn my eyes. But i wanna know if it could be my filter, or vacuum lines or what. Anyone else have this problem??
Well the computer should automatically adjust the amount of fuel if it is to rich or to lean. The O2 sensor monitors this. Anyway's you should have the timing checked your timing could be off, sometimes rarely the timing chain can skip and if it's stretched. You can check this out usually with the help of a Vacuum and Boost tester. If the engine isn't cranking easy then I would look into especially using some good Fuel System Cleaner, I prefer to use Valvoline Fuel System Cleaner. Be smarter with concentration what you could do is to really concentrate the solution put the whole bottle in the tank with the tank only being quarter filled then run the engine in idle until it heats up. I did this with fuel injector cleaner and it's much much better. Try not to let the tank go below quarter tank often because when their is more gas in the tank gravity will do most of the work when their is less fuel in the tank the pump has to work harder to keep the pressure up which can wear out the pump faster.
Also on my van the engine would take 15 seconds to crank because my anti-flow back valve was stuck but I let the truck run until it ran out of fuel and then put fuel in it and it started right up and continues to. Which means I unstuck the valve. However I also put a bottle of fuel inject/intake valve cleaner in with 2 Gallons of fuel before letting it run dry, when the engine was stalling I smelled the fuel injector cleaner. And sure enough the engine sounds much better because of the concentration of cleaner in the engine. Anyway's you might not want to do what I did, it's just not mechanic like but it worked for me and I have an old truck so I Don't have to much to loose other then a pump that I can buy for 20 bucks.
