Default Single to Dual Swap

Ok, Seems that getting a dual cat back system is far easier and cheaper then getting a aftermarket single direct fit cat back exhaust. My question is how are you supposed to put a dual exaust on a truck that is only set up for a single. Mind you I like doing everything myself and only have access to tools usually found in a man cave. I already have a semi custom exhaust on it, but seems to be wearing quickly as it prolly is not made to handle the tempratures found right after the cats. There are no hanging points provided for a dual exhaust and I am sketchy about trying to weld on the frame of the truck to install exhaust hangers. Any suggestions to improve the process or places to look for a single cat back that won't break the bank. I can get a dual flowmaster or race muffler exhaust for under 200, a mbrp (cheapest) single side is pushing 300.

A single exhaust uses a Y pipe to converge both headers into the single exhaust but a true dual exhaust uses an X pipe. Most likely you will have to fab your own hangers. Another thing to consider is just throwing in dual electric cut-outs seeing that California is strict with exhaust noise levels. Open them up with a flip of a switch for a real aggressive sound right out from the exhaust manifold like running an open header and close them when the Highway Patrol is on your ass.
