Default Cylander 8 Misfire

I have a 99 1500 5.9 ram sport with a terrible misfire. My scanner always says its cylander 8, Ive replaced the plugs, wires, the cap and rotor and the intake plenum gasket. At idle the truck shutters, but some days are much worse than others and some days you can hardly tell. Could it be an injector or the cat maybe?

my 5.2 did this when one of the injectors were clogged, would cause CEL and the truck to shake under low rpm but was fixed when a new injector was put in.

Could it be that your using E-3 Spark plugs?? My 2001 had the same problem only on #7. Plugs were less than 6 months old. Went back to Champion OEM plugs and problem was gone.

I would make sure the spark plug wires are all tight on the fittings. Run some Techron injector cleaner through the tank and see if that helps. It's not as good at cleaning the injectors as pulling them out and cleaning them by hand, but it might help.

If you recently put new plug wires on,
Here's a TSB that discusses wire routing and at least some of your symptoms:
http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1998/18-48-98/18-48-98-v8.htm

Pay particular attention to the warning about plug/coil wire(s) crossing only at right angles and notice how close the coil wire is to the #8 wire where the two wires come away from the dizzy cap! Notice how the coil wire is routed straight down the side of the distributor with the #8 wire crossing it at a right angle. Same deal where #8 connects to the plug and crosses the #6 plug wire.
According to the TSB:
"This rerouting procedure should be performed before any other misfire, surge, or spark knock repairs are attempted."
